Non jrpgs I love are dark souls series, Witcher 3, Skyrim. But a contender for the best style of remastering, for the most eager stroking of nostalgia may very well be that on show in the new HD Remaster of PS1 classic Legend of Mana. Secret of mana, Chrono trigger, final fantasy (6 being my favorite), Chrono cross, terranigma, ys 8. Trials of mana- I played the rom years ago and didn't like it as much as secret of mana.

Bearing in mind this was released around the same time as games like Final Fantasy 7. Legend of Mana is truly staggering in terms of its presentation, even 20+ years later. I got bored of it about halfway through which isn't common for me in games. Every landscape, dungeon, forest, and village is a gorgeous hand-painted canvas that kept me in awe throughout my playtime. Ys 9 -i loved ys 8, but this looks pretty lackluster in comparison.ĭragon quest 11 -this gets rave reviews, but I didn't really enjoy dragon quest 8 on the 3ds. Here are a few I've been considering but on the fence about.īravely default 2- I liked octopath enough despite its flaws but it seems incredibly grindy.įf12 - had this recommended but combat seemed slow and boring (which was the issue with legend of mana for me) Legend of Mana is a great, classic Japanese RPG - but it’s also unabashedly of its time, a game arguably released before the developer desire to streamline, simplify and declutter the genre. I've pretty much played all the classic RPGs for SNES and ps1. It's a shame because I really wanted to love this game since it's so unique and I love the music and concept but the main gameplay element, I'm just not enjoying at all. I recently tried to give legend of mana remaster a shot as secret of mana is one of my all time favs, but after about ten hours I'm finding that the combat is really a chore and the puzzles are annoying, personally (getting people to go back to school, the dub people, etc).
